A Case of Bilateral Asynchronous Complex and Nonparoxysmal Involuntary Movements of the Arms and Hands in a Clinically Definite Spinal Form of Multiple Sclerosis

Abstract

Various forms of involuntary movement such as resting tremor, choreoatetosis, orofacial dyskinesia, spasmodic torticollis and hemiballism have been described in multiple sclerosis, usually as single case reports. The anatomical lesions were
usually
located in basal ganglia, subthalamic nucleus or rostral brainstem to explain the movement disorders. One case of spasmodic spasmodic torticollis and another case of sepmental myoclonus has been reported to be associated with cervical cord plaque
in the
literature.
Recently we experienced a patient with clinically definite spinal form of multiple sclerosis who presented with bilateral asynchoronous complex involuntaty arm and hand movements and bilateral flexor spasms of the lower extremities as major
manifestation of second relapse in cervical cord following two attacks in thoracic cord. Clinical and radiologic findings will be presented with discussion of relevant literatures.
